Blueprinting Content Strategy: Using Learning Environment Modeling™ (LEM) to Design and Document Learning Experiences

Co-presented with: John Gillmore

Too often, content professionals and learning designers struggle to communicate course structures, training programs, or instructional experiences in a way that is clear, scalable, and actionable. Enter Learning Environment Modeling™ (LEM)—a visual system that simplifies the process of designing, documenting, and optimizing learning environment content. In this session, you’ll learn how to use LEM™ to turn abstract learning strategies into structured blueprints that streamline course planning, stakeholder communication, and content alignment. We’ll explore the Learner Snapshot, Strategy Board, and Focus Board—but most importantly, we’ll walk through the process of creating Learning Experience Blueprints that clearly map out how content, interaction, and assessment fit together. By the end, you’ll have a repeatable blueprinting process to make learning and training content more efficient, scalable, and strategic.

In this session attendees will learn:

  • Use visual modeling techniques to document and communicate course designs with stakeholders
  • Use Learning Strategy Boards and Focus Boards to inform blueprint creation
  • Create structured LEM™ Blueprints for learning and training content
  • Create collaborative content documents based on the LEM™ models
