Rob is currently a Knowledge Management Lead in a division in the US Air Force that operates and supports platforms that are deployed worldwide at air operations centers. In this role, Rob leads a team of tech writers, designers, developers and SMEs to deliver more complete, consistent, and better connected content so that personnel are able to find it where and when they need it.
Prior to this role, Rob was an IBMer for 20 years and worked as an information developer, team lead, and later a manager of writers, designers, and developers. Through these years, the areas of work started with software development tools, then to Watson AI and then to Watson Health. As a content leader , Rob has “a bunch of AI experience” from his IBM years in Watson and Watson Health and is now doing some investigating use cases in his current domain but is focused on the content strategy, development and delivery of the content that any AI solution is going to need in order for it to be trustworthy.
Building an Organizational Single Source of Truth
My presentation will be about how to drive – how to build alignment and buy-in for and deliver on – a content strategy for an organization that has many lines of effort that are not necessarily aligned and communicating with or linking to each other. And multiple tools and processes might be used or not used consistently and people can’t find the information they need. And multiple systems and environments are part of the wider ecosystem but a consistent alignment of content availability might be lacking. It will provide context and examples that tell a story about assessing an earlier state, and the mindset and tactics applied to building toward and delivering a better current state, and concludes with a reflection on next steps toward the future state and a mindset on continuous improvements and agility through change and challenges.
In this session attendees will learn how to:
- Understand and approach a new domain and environment for the work they do.
- Learn and build a network of collaborators by being curious and listening.
- Understand Organizational objectives and find ways to contribute to them.
- Discover and make assessments of a current state.
- Determine and prioritize pain points that need improvement.
- Communicate with leaders, share assessments, and make recommendations for alignment and buy-in.
- Lead teams and work with stakeholders to build a better future state.
- Define, measure and to demonstrate progress and ROI.
- Be resilient, proactive and productive through change and challenges.
