The LavaCon Content Strategy Conference | 25–28 October 2026 | Charlotte, NC
Michael Iantosca

Michael Iantosca is Senior Director of Knowledge Platforms and Engineering at Avalara Inc., with over four decades of experience at the intersection of content and technology. A pioneer in structured content, Michael spent 38 years of his 45-year career at IBM, where he led the development of groundbreaking content management systems and co-founded the team that created the DITA standard. With dual expertise in content strategy and systems engineering, he helped shape the early foundations of structured content in the 80s and 90s and drove some of the industry’s first scalable content platforms.

Today, Michael is at the forefront of integrating AI into the content lifecycle, leading the design of advanced agentive systems that automate and elevate technical content creation. His work continues to define how content professionals adapt to—and lead through—the next wave of technological transformation.

Agentic AI for Technical Documentation: Challenges and Solutions for Enterprise-Class Workflows

Many technical documentation teams are already experimenting with AI, whether through large language models (LLMs) or commercial tools built on them. But using AI for isolated tasks is very different from automating the entire content supply chain. You may have heard of AI agents and agentic workflows, but what does a true end-to-end agentic documentation workflow look like in production? Join Michael as he shares how to design and build an industrial-grade, multi-agent content supply chain in which content professionals collaborate with AI throughout the content lifecycle.

This session goes beyond prompts and single-purpose bots. Michael will demonstrate production-deployed workflows, discuss the challenges and lessons learned, and show how terminology, taxonomies, ontologies, and knowledge graphs support these systems. You’ll see how agentic AI is changing not only how technical content is produced and managed, but also the evolving role of the content professional.

In this session, you’ll learn how to:

Understand the array of agentic workflow types, the array of complex issues, and challenges faced and overcome during design, development, and deployment that span people, process, technology, and business.
