Content is Still King – Thriving in the Era of AI

Bill Gates first said “Content is King” back in January 1996 as he pondered the future of the internet in an essay published on the official Microsoft website. Fast forward 30 years, and that axiom has never been truer. While AI tools have made it infinitely easier to create, all generative AI systems were trained by human-generated content. Content professionals will continue to play an essential role in the next 30 years of the internet and AI if we rapidly adapt to a changing technical landscape, just like we did back in 1996. In fact, Content Professionals will be one of the world’s greatest defenses against the proliferation of “work slop”, but it’s going to take a global village to ensure that content remains king for the next 30 years.

In this session, attendees will learn:

  • How the history of online content will inform the future o How content professionals at Microsoft have adapted over the last 30 years
  • How generative AI can augment and accelerate human creation
  • The criticality of “humans in the loop” to prevent “work slop”
  • Building skills to remain relevant in a constantly changing technology landscape
  • The inevitability of artificial general intelligence and implications for content creators
